Modify the Children’s Corner Robert into a jumper!

First of all..the Robert is now offered in larger sizes guys! This is great news for all the younger kids wanting to learn to sew-the pants would be a FANTASTIC first sewing project in my opinion!

Now; as I’ve explained before, I often use images on instagram as inspiration for new sewing projects. I recently saw this adorable jumper and had to recreate it.

This seriously cute jumper can be found on Donodolobaby’s website and at various boutiques.

The belt on the jumper made me immediately think of the Robert from Children’s Corner store. Using the Robert I was able to whip up this cute jumper in one nap!

Directions:

  • Retrieve the appropriate front belt piece from the pattern. This is the only piece from the pattern needed.
  • Aquire the following measurements from the model:
    1. desired length of skirt from waist to above knee
    2. approximate measurement of suspenders
  • Measure the front belt piece of the pattern horizontally. Multiply this number by 1.5 to calculate the width of the skirt piece that will be created.
  • The skirt will be a rectangle with the dimensions seen in the image below. Cut out front skirt pieces as seen below.
  • To cut out the back pieces, simply use the same width dimension for the front skirt pieces and the height of the front skirt pieces + the height of the belt. Refer to the image below.
  • Gather the front skirt and front skirt lining pieces to match the width of the front belt piece. This can be seen in the first image. Stitch top of gathered front skirt piece to the bottom of the front belt piece, right sides together. Open and press. Repeat with lining.
  • Complete steps 9 and 10 from the pattern.
  • Complete pattern by doing steps 16-19.
  • Attach suspenders of desired lengths. If you need directions on how to accomplish these, check out the Bailey -just change the lengths as needed.

To create the belt, I modified the belt piece of the Robert pattern, added bullion poinsettias, and buttoned the belt piece to the skirt. If you’d like more detailed instructions on the belt, leave a comment or send me a message!
