Gift Guide For Sewing Friends

Who doesn’t love a gift guide with links? I created one of these last year and ya’ll seemed to really enjoy it. I’ve updated it and included more categories! Let me know what you think.

What are the best sewing related gifts you’ve received or given? I’ve received some real gems. Some of my favorites are the appliqué scissors below, and recently a reader’s collection of Sew Beautiful and Creative Needle Magazines. I absolutely love how generous the sewing community is. This blog is how I try to give back and share as much joy for sewing as possible. I’m glad you all enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy doing it.

Please know that I will receive a small commission on any items sold below. This commission is how I pay for the blog/justify doing it so if you do use the links below, thank you!

  • Sulky Sticky, Fabri-Solvy Hand Embroidery Stabilizer. Shew, that’s a mouth full! I have given this as a gift before and also use it myself. Its a hand embroidery game-changer. You can print on it, stick it to fabric, hand embroiderjohn right over it, then rinse it off.
  • Straw/Milliner Needles– these make the most beautiful French knots and bullions because the needle itself is completely straight.
  • Gift Certificate to Joy Kate Embroidery– I love everything this girl makes. Her files are adorable and of the highest quality.
  • sulky sticky-my go-to machine embroidery stabilizer.
  • floche braids-Sarah Classic Sewing has started carrying the most visually pleasing collection of floche thread for hand embroidery. Perfect for easily coordinating your hand embroidery. She also has a braid of the month Club….go check it out!
  • A small rotary cutter. I love this one-very precise and super sharp blade.
  • A rotary cutter-I recently updated mine for the first time in a long time….it made me realize I should have done that a long time ago! Treat yourself to a new one…you will not regret it!
  • A new iron. This one gets SO HOT and has tons of steam. I suspect it breaks some kind of American code. It is made in Germany and if plugged in with certain other items causes my circuit break…that is my kind of iron.
  • Gingher Applique Scissors. I received these as a gift last year and they are easily my most used pair of scissors.
  • Pattern Weights. No one likes pinning patterns to fabric…no one. Feeling crafty? Make your own. Here’s a tutorial.
  • extra large lint roller– this thing is SO GOOD at getting all the thread off the floor before you trash your vacuum cleaner.
  • All the Children’s Corner Smocking Plates-these are some of my favorite plates!
  • Number 7 Darners-my favorite smocking needle.
  • embroidery scissors-perfect to put in your hand sewing bag. My favorite small, sharp scissors.
  • stitch and ditch– I use this stuff ALL THE TIME. Any time my fabric is super thin, extra fiddly or I just need a little more control. I use it when doing heirloom sewing, as extra stabilizer for my machine embroidery, and to help make neat stitches on knits. I love love love this.
  • Glass Head Pins. Sometimes you just need a pin refresh.
  • Gingher Dressmaker Shears. I didn’t put a picture of these up there but I’ve never met a sewist who doesn’t love fabric shears…did you know there are videos of tailors cutting fabric out there? Hands down one of the best ways to bring joy into your life is to cut some fabric. Or watch someone else cut it.

Hope you all enjoy this one! Now you know all my sewing room favorites 🙂
